What Matters Most

Over the last few weeks, my schedule has taken a little more control than I’d like. The calendar fills up, priorities pile on, and before I know it, some of the things that keep me grounded start getting pushed aside. One of those was connection.

Not because it wasn’t important. More because it’s easy to convince yourself you’ll make time or reconnect when things slow down. This past week, a friend of mine shared a post about something I did that honestly felt like just a small gesture. Reading it though, made me stop and reflect.

What stood out wasn’t the gesture itself. It was the reminder of how that relationship started at work and continued after we stopped working together. It reminded me that some of the most valuable things I’ve gained throughout my career haven’t come from projects, roles, or accomplishments. They’ve come from people.

And as leaders, I think that’s easy to forget.

We’re measured on results, execution, and outcomes. But leadership is about people. The trust you build. The relationships you invest in. The conversations that have nothing to do with a project plan and everything to do with being human.

The work matters. Connection does too. The connections we build along the way often matter long after the work is done.

Reading that post felt a little ironic. As I reflected on the week and realized I needed to create more space for connection, life was reminding me why it matters in the first place.
